Week 4
We'll be starting off this momentous final blog post with a self reflection, which I'm told will will be immortalize in the annals of this coming report.
To recap, here were the three goals that I laid out for myself during my very first blog post:
- make a meaningful contribution to Dr. Park's research
- learn some more about applications of AR in the medical field
- establish whether a career in research is something I’d want to pursue
Fortunately, I think that I've succeeded in completely all the goals laid out above. Despite being relatively new to utilizing python packages, I was able to have succeeded in having my code function and preform the task of tag recognization. I'm sure that future improvements will have to be made before it can be fully applied in a research setting, but I'm astonished I made it this far at all. I've even learned more than I honestly ever thought there was to learn about how AR can be applied in the medical field. Unfortunately, I doubt that this 4 week senior project has given be the perspective necessary to decide whether a career in research is something I'd like to pursue. I certainly haven't ruled the option out.
For all those rising seniors considering doing a more technical senior project and even those who aren't, I'm glad to report that not having much of a technical background isn't something to be stressed about. Learning about things by yourself and on the fly is great fun, and you'll surprise yourself at what you'll be able to do by the end. I personally can't speak on more "passion-project-esque" senior projects since I didn't;t really do one, but I'm sure those will come highly recommended as well.
